Ancestors on Money

Money stamped
with faces of our ancestors
As if to honor
those whose faces
grace the silver
and gold
As if silver and gold
Did not take the land
of where these men
roamed freely
Money stamped
with the people
who have lived in poverty
once money started being made
Put our faces on your greed
When that money
no longer has value
We will still be here
with our values.

  1. I really want to thank you for this poem. You have a valid point, made without any condescending or demeaning comments. You have class while pointing out when something is wrong. Thank you for that. I don’t feel attacked by this poem, but I also want to listen.
